Mockup

 What is a website mockup?

If you ask a web developer, what is a website?

They will probably say, “A website is a collection of web pages.”

But, they are developers, so all they are with the coding of a website.

However, it is the job of a web designer to create the look of a website that the users will interact with.

For this purpose, both graphic and web designers are used.

Now, suppose you have to design a website for your client. You will first have to show them multiple templates from which to choose from.

It will be tremendously tedious task if you had to design several different looking websites for the same website.

This task can be exponentially reduced by the use of a Website Mockup.

A website mockup will help you create several visuals of a websites which you can show to your client.

These website mockups aren’t a fully-potential website, but just an image of how the website will look with different styles, colors, fonts, etc.

Although, don’t get confused between mockups and prototypes.

Mockups aren’t functional. They are simply the visual of how a product will look like once completed.

Whereas, a prototype of a website is a version that isn’t fully ready yet, but can be used for the purpose of testing functions for further development of website.

Why use website mockups?

If you are still left unconvinced as to why you need them, let’s get you through some more benefits:

  • Do you know how much time it takes just to change a few lines of code just because a client doesn’t like it? A lot, right. But if you use a mockup to talk with your client and select the design they wish to move froward with, you will be able to save a lot of unnecessary time and effort.
  • A picture says 1000 words. No matter how much discussion you have with your client, and no matter how detailed description they give you, it’ll still be very difficult to provide the clients exactly what they ordered. But, with mckups, that decision can be made easily.
  • You can easily showcase designs that carry the purpose and ideals of your clients without putting in as much effort as in designing several websites.
  • Sometimes, there might be some unwanted visual effects that you won’t be able to see via codes. However, using a mockup you can easily unmask them and remove or modify them as needed.
  • If you working with a team, which you mostly are, it’s not possible that every team member has the same idea of the final website as you. But, the mockups can help the whole team collaborate and work for a single idea rather than their own interpretations.

Conclusion

Website mockups are very useful in website designing as they provide the client with a complete visual how their website and webpages will look like once completed.
